Changzhou’s foreign trade has shown consistent growth this year, with total imports and exports amounting to 268.13 billion yuan from January to October, reflecting a 1.3% increase year-on-year, according to recent customs data. October alone recorded trade volumes of 26.96 billion yuan, marking a 9.3% growth compared to the same month last year.
Private enterprises have played a pivotal role in this growth, contributing 57.5% of the city’s total trade. With their adaptable strategies and innovative market approaches, these enterprises generated 154.17 billion yuan in trade over the first 10 months of 2024, achieving a 2.7% year-on-year increase. Their efforts have propelled overall trade growth, with a contribution rate exceeding 116%.
Key export sectors such as machinery and electronics led the way, driven by strong performances in automobiles and auto parts, which saw increases of 51% and 8.3% to 6.38 billion yuan and 9.25 billion yuan, respectively. Other sectors, including textiles, toys, and footwear, also experienced substantial growth, with export rates rising by 11.7%, 47.6%, and 12.6%. The rise of cross-border e-commerce has further enhanced Changzhou’s global presence, as 4,258 online sellers now engage in international trade.
To support this momentum, Changzhou Customs has introduced innovative measures such as the “pre-declaration + direct loading” clearance model, streamlining export procedures and improving efficiency. Additionally, efforts to help local firms adapt to evolving international standards—such as carbon border adjustment mechanisms—are driving sustainable innovation and maintaining the city’s global competitiveness.
Changzhou’s robust foreign trade performance underscores its resilience and strategic positioning in the global market.
