Recently, Changzhou Municipal People’s Government signed a framework agreement for strategic cooperation on military-civilian integration with the First Design Department of CASC First Academy.
The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) is the main contractor for the Chinese space program. It is state-owned and has a number of subordinate entities which design, develop and manufacture a range of spacecraft, launch vehicles, strategic and tactical missile systems, and ground equipment. Along with space and defence manufacture, CASC also produces a number of high-end civilian products such as machinery, chemicals, communications equipment, transportation equipment, computers, medical care products and environmental protection equipment.
The CASC First Academy, also known as China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), is the premier space launch vehicle manufacturer in China and one of the major launch service providers in the world. It was established in 1957 and is headquartered in the southern suburbs of Beijing. Its major contribution to Chinese launch capability has been the manufacture of the Long March family of rockets.
According to the agreement, the two sides will rely on the scientific research technology, military design and supply channel of the First Design Department of CASC First Academy, as well as Changzhou’s advantageous manufacturing industry, to make Changzhou a manufacturing base of military-civilian integration, and make the First Design Department of CASC First Academy an output base of new products and technologies.
