On the morning of October 24, Sean B. Stein, Consul General of the US Consulate General in Shanghai, accompanied by Outreach Unit Chief Mary Sue Fields, visited Xinbei, Changzhou. Xue Jiannan, Chairman of Xinbei District Committee of CPPCC met with the delegation.
At the meeting, Xue Jiannan briefed Sean B. Stein on the economic and social development of Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND) in recent years. After over two decades of construction and development, CND is now featured with convenient transportation, strong industrial base, rich resources of science and education and superior investment environment. It has become the largest open area for foreign investment and trade in the city. At present, there are nearly 100 US-based companies investing in Xinbei, Changzhou. Xue hoped that the two sides can further enhance exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education and medical care in the future.
Stein agreed with Xue and expected to maintain a long-term cooperation and win-win relationship with Xinbei. He also proposed possibilities for cooperation in building international schools and hospitals, and promoting the establishment of friendship cities between Xinbei district and American cities.
During the visit, Stein and Fields also visited the American-based company Terex (Changzhou) Machinery Co., Ltd.
