On August 31, the awarding ceremony of the 2019 Outstanding Talent Scholarship for Young Doctoral Students was hosted by Shanghai Tongji Gaotingyao Environmental Protection Science & Technology Development Foundation in Changzhou National High-tech District (CND). 20 outstanding full-time doctoral students in the environmental protection field at Fudan University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University and other nine universities each won a scholarship of 40,000 yuan.

Chen Jie, president of Tongji University, and Changzhou’s city leaders Ding Chun, Han Jiuyun and Zhou Bin presented awards to the winners.

In his speech, Mayor Ding Chun said that at present, Changzhou is focusing on planting the ‘Tree of Happiness’ and becoming a star city of industry, tourism and management. At the same time, in the course of building a well-off society at a high level, Changzhou is vigorously tackling the pollution issues and promoting environmental protection. Changzhou hopes to cooperate with famous colleges such as Tongji University in UNISPAR programs and promote the invention of new technologies and products in environmental protection. He also invited these young doctoral students to come to Changzhou to start businesses and realize their dreams.

Shanghai Tongji Gaotingyao Environmental Protection Science & Technology Development Foundation was founded in 2003. It is named after Pro. Gao Tingyao, former president of Tongji University. Its outstanding talent scholarship is to support and cultivate a new generation of environmental protection talents and accelerate the sustainable development of the industry in China. The Foundation has so far awarded scholarships to over 200 full-time doctoral students.

As an outstanding enterprise in China's environmental protection field, the Welle Group in the CND has cooperated with the Foundation and has funded more than 100 award-winning students.
